Curls Studio is like nothing you’ve ever seen before! Imagine if you took the love from Disney characters, the madness of Warner Brothers cartoons and the lifestyle of a traveling carnival of thieves and mixed it up in a tornado of trouble, that would be the characters created in the comic storytelling entertainment of Curls Studio.
Led by mad scientist creators, artist Carolyn Belefski and writer Joe Carabeo, Curls Studio has characters and stories that are impossible not to enjoy. From the futuristic Blade Runner meets Cabaret, action spy adventure, about a group of burlesque dancers who want to save the universe in, The Legettes, to the insane and famous getaways of Roxy and Dean, who star in the Robin Hood meets Bonnie and Clyde meets Animaniacs book, Black Magic Tales, not to mention Kid Roxy, the tales of a mysterious small town where Roxy and Dean grew up in before becoming world famous criminals. Curls Studio is indeed not afraid to go into uncharted territory or start some trouble. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL…
Carolyn Belefski also does a webcomic called Curls. This wonderful and purely fun with a side of insanity comic strip is about a gal with mitten hands, who runs into adventures with her best friends – a life size slice of Toast – named Toast of the Town, Applause, a Siamese Fighting Fish who is the boxing world champion in the waterweight division, Turtle Neck, a turtle who wears turtlenecks and Pitter Patter, a penguin waiter. Carolyn Belefski was nominated for a Friends of Lulu Award in 2010 for Most Talented Newcomer to recognize cartooning work by women. You can check out a brand new Curls webcomic every Monday and Thursday at
curls–studio.com.
Also in their quest to give you even more entertainment than you can handle, the creators of Curls Studio have a weekly podcast called, The Carolyn & Joe Show, where they have a conversation that will either offend or entertain you, every week. Nothing is off-limits – from the subject of perfectly shaped boobs to how Joe ruined Christmas to their encounter with pro wrestler Mick Foley – they even talked about what it would be like to have sex with Gilbert Godfrey! It’s a conversational riot on podcast radio that should no doubt be a part of everyone’s week.
We will be exhibiting our creations in 2011 at the upcoming DC Zinefest (July 30), Philadelphia Alternative Comic Con (August 14), Baltimore Comic-Con (August 20-21), Small Press Expo (September 10-11), Intervention (September 16-18) and New York Comic Con in Artist Alley (October 13-16). We hope to be able to meet you at one of our East Coast tour stops. If you can’t make it out to meet us in person, check out the merchandise on the Curls Studio Etsy Store online at http://www.etsy.com/shop/cartooncarolyn.
